Reading

There are three sections in the reading paper and there will be a variety of question types such as multiple choice, short answer questions, identify the information, identify the writer’s views, completing a summary using words taken from the text and matching information/heading/features in the text/sentence ending.

Texts in IELTS academy
Three reading texts which come from novel, book, journal, magazine, newspaper, online resources etc. All the topics will be the general interest of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

IELTS general training
Section 1: contains two-three short texts which deal with every day
topics like notices and timetables.
Section 2: contains two texts that deal with work. For example job description, training material, contracts.
section 3: contains one long text from a general interest topic.

Writing

The writing test has two tasks which are mandatory to complete. In task 1 participant needs to write at least 150 words in 20 minutes. In task 2 participant needs to write at least 250 words in 40 minutes. It is different for IELTS academic and IELTS general training.

IELTS academic
Task 1: participant describes a chart, table, graph or diagram in their own words.

Task 2: participant needs to discuss a point of view, argument, and problem. depending on the task which has given them.

IELTS general training
Task 1: participants write a letter in response to a given everyday situation. for example, writing to a new employer about your problems managing time, writing to the local newspaper about the plan to develop your local areas.

Task 2:  participants write an essay about a topic of general interest. For example, whether children should allow carrying a mobile phone to school, whether smoking should be banned in a public place.

Speaking

The speaking test is a face to face interview which takes place between test taker and an examiner. it contains 11-14 min to conduct the test.

IELTS speaking test has 3 sections.

Section 1

introduction and interview contain 4-5 min. test takers are interrogated about their studies, home, family, hobbies, work, interests, they may be asked the reason for taking IELTS exam as well as other general topics such as the internet, free time, games and clothing.

Section 2:

long turn (3-4 minutes). test takers get a task card about a particular topic. they are given 1 min to prepare to speak about that topic. some points are stated in the task card which should be included in the talk and an aspect of the topic which must be included during the talk. test takers are anticipated to speak about the topic for 2 minutes, after which they may be asked one or two questions.

Section 3:

discussion (4-5 minutes). the third section has a discussion between the examiner and test taker. generally, questions are asked related to the theme which they have already spoken in section.

Listening

The listening test has 4 sections, with 10 questions in each section. it contains 40 minutes: 30 – for testing, you will be given an additional 10 minutes to transfer your answers to an answer sheet.

Section 1 and 2 involves every day, social situation, section 3 and 4 contains educational and training situation,

A. There is a conversation between two speakers in section 1 (for example a conversation about travel arrangements)

B. there is one person speaking in section 2 (for example a speech about local facilities)

C. there is a conversation between two main speakers in section 3 (for example, a discussion between two university students, perhaps guided by a tutor)

D. there is one person speaking about an academic subject in section 4
